MTIB – Malaysian Timber Industry Board

The Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) is a statutory body accredited to the Ministry of Primary Industries. MTIB was established in 1973 by an Act of Parliament. The main objective is to promote and coordinate the overall development of the timber industry in Malaysia.

To be the prime agency instrumental for the development of a competitive timber industry.

Mission
To enhance the sustainable growth of the Malaysian timber industry through the provision of a conducive environment and continuous extension of quality services

Objective
MTIB is responsible for initiating development of the various sectors of the timber industry and providing technical, marketing and other forms of assistance to ensure their continued growth within a rapidly industrialization Malaysian economy. As specifically provided by the Act, MTIB objectives include: 

  1. To further enhance industrialization and upgrading of the timber industry with emphasis on value-added processing.
  2. To promote and improve the markets and marketing of timber products.
  3. To facilitate and strengthen the development of SMEs.
  4. To develop and promote standard in quality timber products.
  5. To foster orderliness in timber trade.

Function 

  1. To regulate and control the trade in, and the marketing and distribution of timber;
  2. To promote and improve the trade in, and markets for timber;
  3. To co-ordinate activities for effective marketing and shipping of timber;
  4. To encourage effective utilization of timber with emphasis on product diversification and to promote improvement and economy in the methods of processing timber;
  5. To provide technical advisory services and training required to assist in the development of existing timber industries and the establishment of new industries;
  6. To assist the timber industries in the marketing of timber;
  7. To organize and assist in the consolidation of the small-scale timber industries and the closer integration of the activities of the timber industries generally, so as to achieve greater efficiency in, and secure a stronger base for, the timber industry as a whole;
  8. To gather information on and maintain records of all relevant matters relating to the timber industry; and
  9. Generally to do everything within the scope of the objectives for the betterment and proper conduct of the timber industry

Dr.Mohd Nor Zamri Mat Amin, works at MTIB for more than 27 years.  Nowadays he is the Director of Wood Industry Skills Development Centre (WISDEC). WISDEC is a training arm of MTIB which focuses on human capital development, training, industry development, design and product development. The area of Specialization of Dr Zamri are furniture technology management, wood-based/furniture industry management, strategic management, timber in construction, furniture production and operation management, timber structure, product development, international marketing and research management. He was involved in the many consultation and research projects: Training needs analysis for the wood processing industry (for Malaysia and ASEAN countries), safety and health in the wood industry, manpower study in the wood-based sector, furniture development in Malaysia, technical and vocational technical training (TVET), industry development, industry 4.0, automation and mechanization, product development etc. Dr Zamri has been actively involving in seminar, conference, study visit, meeting at national and international level.

Mr. Muhammad Faizul Razilah works at MTIB for more than 15 years.  Nowadays he is the Deputy Director of Wood Industry Skills Development Centre (WISDEC).. The area of Specialization of Mr Faizul are biocomposites, furniture technology management, wood-based/furniture industry management, and finishing. He was involved in the several consultation and research projects: Training needs analysis for the wood processing industry (for Malaysia and ASEAN countries),  manpower study in the wood-based sector, furniture development in Malaysia, wood finishing and technical and vocational technical training (TVET).

MOHD AMIN BIN KADIR

Mr. Mohd Amin Kadir works at MTIB for more than 15 years.  Nowadays he is the Senior Assistant Director of  Strategic Planning of MTIB. The area of Specialization of Mr Amin are National Timber Industry Policy (NATIP), strategic management, LEAN manufacturing, 5s management, industry development and risk management.  He was involved in the several consultation and research projects: National Timber Industry Policy (NATIP),  National Census on the Malaysian Timber Industry, risk profiling, LEAN manufacturing, 5s management, industry development, industry 4.0,  automation and risk management.

ASFAIRUL ABDUL MAJID

Mr. Asfairul Abdul Majid works at MTIB for more than 10 years.  Nowadays he is the Senior Assistant Director of Wood Industry Skills Development Centre (WISDEC). He is also mechanical engineer. The area of Specialization of Mr Asfairul are machining,  CNC, robotic, furniture technology, wood-based/furniture industry management and manufacturing. He was involved in the several consultation and research projects: Machining technology, wood technology, furniture development in Malaysia, technical and vocational technical training (TVET), LEAN manufacturing, 5s management, industry development, industry 4.0 and  automation.

NORHASNIZA BINTI MOHD ROM

Mrs Norhasniza Mohd Rom  works at MTIB for more than 10 years.  Nowadays he is the Senior Assistant Director of Wood Industry Skills Development Centre (WISDEC). The area of Specialization of Mrs Norhasniza are training management, youth and industry training, skills development, technical and vocational technical training (TVET). She was involved in the several consultation and research projects: Training needs analysis for the wood processing industry (for Malaysia and ASEAN countries),  manpower study in the wood-based sector, furniture development in Malaysia, skills competitions (National, ASEAN and World Skills Competition), and technical and vocational technical training (TVET).

SHAH BADRI BIN MOHD NOR

Mr. Shah Badri Mohd Nor  works at MTIB for more than 7 years.  Nowadays he is the Assistant Director of  Strategic Planning of MTIB. The area of Specialization of Mr Shah Badri are National Timber Industry Policy (NATIP), strategic management, LEAN manufacturing, 5s management,  industry development and risk management. He was involved in the several consultation and research projects: National Timber Industry Policy (NATIP),  National Census on the Malaysian Timber Industry, risk profiling, LEAN manufacturing, 5s management, industry development, industry 4.0  and risk management.
